A new poll from SurveyUSA shows likely voters supporting Robert Hurt over Tom Perriello by 58%-35%. Apparently the district is holding Perriello accountable for voting in lockstep with Nancy Pelosi in support of her left-wing agenda. Moreover, third party candidate Jeffrey Clark only garners 4%.

Perriello’s wrong priorities

“Whether you’re political or apolitical, jobs is the top priority,” says Congressman Tom Perriello. If that’s true, then he and his fellow Democrats are either incompetent or they’re taking us for fools. Under Obamanomics they’ve created skyrocketing unemployment while focusing on job-killing measures like Obamacare and cap-and-tax legislation. While jobs evaporated, they forced through programs we don’t want being paid for by money we don’t have. It’s no surprise that employer groups like the Business Roundtable are complaining that Perriello’s policies are actually slowing economic growth and hindering job creation.

Perriello and the Democrats have been busy passing their liberal agenda instead of creating incentives for private sector employers to hire. And they’ve piled on a mountain of debt in the process. Their $13,000,000,000,000+ in national debt translates into every American taxpayer owing over $118,000. And all that spending hasn’t improved the unemployment rate at all. It’s just dug us deeper into an economic hole we may never get out of.

With all this in mind it becomes clear that, whether you’re political or apolitical, forcing Perriello to get a new job should be your top priority. To do that, you need to vote for Robert Hurt in November.

Perriello and the joke of pay-as-you-go rules

Congressman Tom Perriello’s answer to every problem is to borrow more money to throw at it. And his irresponsible governing is driving the country into a canyon of debt. But that doesn’t matter to Perriello and his Democratic cohorts. They won’t even pass a budget this year because they’re afraid we’ll hold them accountable for their runaway spending in November. But that isn’t keeping them from still spending and spending money we don’t have.

Perriello and his spendthrift pals point to pay-as-you-go rules as an indicator of how serious they are about reigning in spending. The rules are supposed to keep them from adding to the deficit. But they ignore their own rules over and over again. That’s why it’s a joke when Perriello complains that the Senate won’t pass an extension of unemployment benefits. The Senators holding things up just want the Democrats to follow their own rules and pay for the extended benefits instead of racking up more and more debt.

Clearly, pay-as-you-go rules are just a political prop for Perriello to try and fool people into thinking he’s fiscally responsible. But it won’t work. We know the truth, and the truth is we can’t afford Perriello.

Perriello’s honesty deficit

Congressman Tom Perriello said recently that he and the Democratic Party “are the truth-tellers of Southside politics.” He must think we’re stupid. The facts about Obamacare are proof that his truth-telling claim is in itself less than truthful. Here are some examples:

  • He said Obamacare would improve your access to healthcare. The truth is it will jeopardize access to care for millions of seniors and low-income Americans.
  • He said Obamacare would lower your healthcare costs. The truth is costs will go up and employers will pass some of them on to employees in higher premiums, co-pays, and other out-of-pocket expenses.
  • He said Obamcare would reduce the deficit. The truth is Obamacare is filled with budget gimmicks and flawed assumptions designed to make it look like it will reduce federal costs. Honest analysts say it actually will increase deficits.
  • He said Obamacare would not fund abortions. But there is no ban on abortion funding in the bill, and it actually pays for abortions under the Indian Health Services Program. Obama’s executive order is just a political fig leaf.

Judge for yourself: If what Perriello claims about Obamacare is “truth-telling”, how on earth can you believe anything the man says?

What’s Perriello got against freedom of speech?

Congressman Tom Perriello doesn’t think much of the Constitution’s free speech guarantees. He’s supporting the DISCLOSE Act, which is designed to stymie the political speech of American citizens. And we shouldn’t be surprised since he’s claimed it wasn’t up to him to figure out what’s constitutional.

The DISCLOSE act was crafted by cynical Democrats in response to the Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC that when Americans organize into corporations they do not forfeit their political free speech rights any more than they would if they organize into labor unions. Yet the DISCLOSE Act will for the first time in campaign law history punish American citizens who come together in corporate forms for exercising their free speech rights while exempting those who come together in unions. The act is slickly crafted to unfairly stack the free speech deck in favor of labor unions over employers.

For Perriello, the free speech right of unions should be protected, but not that of employers. Maybe that’s because he’s beholden to labor unions who donate heavily to his campaign. And employers might question Perriello’s votes to kill jobs and increase their costs of doing business. Maybe Perriello’s afraid of that.

Defeating Perriello is critical

Congratulations to Robert Hurt for winning the Republican nomination to represent the Fifth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Now the imperative is to defeat Democrat Tom Perriello.

Why is it so important to defeat Perriello? Because he will vote for San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi to continue as Speaker of the House. Pelosi is the one who forced Obamacare through (with Perriello’s vote). She shoved cap-and-tax through (with Perriello’s vote). And she continues to push relentlessly to enact her radical agenda by irresponsibly spending more and more money we don’t have. If re-elected, Perriello will vote again for Pelosi to continue on this destructive course.

While Robert Hurt may not be the “perfect” candidate in the eyes of many conservatives, one thing is certain. He won’t vote for Pelosi to be Speaker. That alone is worth your vote. But more than that, on his worst day Hurt will be a better representative of the values of Fifth District than Perriello is on his best day.

If you don’t want Pelosi to keep running things in Washington, you must vote for Robert Hurt. Any other vote, or even staying home, will only serve to keep Pelosi in power.
